Instinct and Trust
Bay's Gem & Pearl began the way many lasting things do — not with a plan, but with a moment of recognition.
In the late 1970s, our founder arrived in Hong Kong with little more than determination and a willingness to work. It was a chance encounter with a handful of freshwater pearls — unfamiliar, unassuming, and deeply undervalued — that changed everything. He saw what others had not yet noticed. That instinct became the foundation of everything we do.
Bay's Gem & Pearl Company Limited was established in 1986. The name reflects what we believe: that a pearl is a gem of the bay — born from water, shaped by time, carried by those who know how to find it.
FOUR DECADES OF SOURCING
From a Single Strand to a Global Trade
What began as pearl trading grew into something more considered. Over four decades, we built direct relationships with farms and suppliers in Japan, Australia and French Polynesia — attending the world's leading jewellery exhibitions from Baselworld to JCK Las Vegas, learning the industry from the inside out.
We attempted our own pearl cultivation. A typhoon took the harvest — and taught us where our real strength lay: not in growing pearls, but in knowing how to find the finest ones.
Today, Bay's Gem & Pearl supplies wholesale pearl materials to jewellers across Australia, Canada, South America and the United States — while also crafting finished jewellery for clients who want something made precisely for them.

Two Perspectives, One Standard
In 2011, a second perspective joined the business — trained in jewellery and silversmithing at Birmingham City University's Jewellery Quarter, where traditional craft meets contemporary design thinking.
The result is a business that runs on two tracks: the sourcing expertise built over forty years, and a design sensibility that knows how a piece should feel when it is worn, not just how it looks on a tray.
We do not do everything. We do what we know deeply — and we have been doing it long enough to tell the difference.
